  •  Ameyoko Shopping Street 無題Shopping street running from Okachimachi Station to Ueno Station Ameyoko Shopping Street is a very famous street in Tokyo that is renowned for its extensive variety of goods available for purchase as well as its super affordable prices. Ameyoko Shopping Street, short for Ameya Yokocho, which means literally ‘candy store alley’, was once filled with candy shops in the years following World War II. These candy shops gave way to black market stalls selling illegally imported American goods. You can find here raw nuts, beans, grains, dry fruits, spices, fresh veggies and fruits (including fresh coconuts and apple bananas).

  • Once a year only Organic EXPO http://organic-expo.jp/en/ The Japanese word “yuki” which means “organic” is well known to the Japanese population: 97% of the Japanese are familiar with this term. Every fifth Japanese regularly – once or several times per week – chooses an organic product. This lifestyle is reflected in the current total volume of domestic and imported organic products which comprises a total value of over 150 billion Yen (approx. 1.3 billion US$). The demand for organic products is still rising. The recent “Japanese Organic Market” study forecasts huge potential for the green market. Along with organic food, the demand for natural cosmetics and natural textiles is also increasing. Currently, the Japanese demand exceeds the Japanese supply. After the disaster in spring 2011, Japan is even more dependent on organic food imports than before.
